Are You a Candidate

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your breasts you may be wondering if you are a good candidate for cosmetic surgery. A consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon is necessary to determine if you are a candidate and to decide on the procedures and techniques that are most appropriate for your needs and goals. Dr. Wesley Schooler places a special emphasis on breast surgery at the Santa Barbara Plastic Surgery Center. We offer several procedures to enhance the figure and create shapelier, more attractive breast contours. During a consultation, Dr. Schooler will listen to your goals and will conduct a thorough examination to make sure that cosmetic surgery is right for you. Our plastic surgeon has helped many cosmetic surgery patients throughout California and abroad achieve their goals for an enhanced and more feminine figure.

Breast Augmentation

Most healthy adult women who desire larger, shapelier breasts are good candidates for breast augmentation surgery. It’s important to keep in mind that the decision to undergo breast surgery should be made by the patient herself. Women who elect to have the procedure should do so to satisfy their own goals and not because someone else is pressuring them to do so.

Great caution should be exercised before breast augmentation is performed for teenage girls. Because the breasts continue to develop on into the twenties, it is recommended that teens who are interested in cosmetic breast surgery wait until they are older before receiving treatment.

Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery is appropriate for women whose breasts have begun to sag. The aging process can cause the skin to become less elastic and the breasts to droop downwards. Pregnancy and significant weight loss can cause the breasts to sag even in younger women. Patients are advised to postpone breast lift surgery if they plan on getting pregnant or losing a significant amount of weight in the future. Those factors can cause the skin to stretch, affecting the results of the procedure.

Breast Reduction

Women who experience pain or embarrassment caused by heavy, large breasts are generally excellent candidates for breast reduction surgery. Women who wish to breastfeed may be advised to wait until after they have finished nursing before undergoing breast reduction surgery.

Mommy Makeover

If you have had a child and have had difficulty regaining the figure you had prior to pregnancy, you may be a good candidate for the mommy makeover procedure. This treatment is designed to correct the effects that pregnancy often has on the body, including stretched abdominal muscles, drooping breasts, and excess skin.

Breast Implant Revision and Replacement

Candidates for breast implant revision and replacement include women who have already had breast augmentation surgery performed, either at the Santa Barbara Plastic Surgery Center or at another plastic surgery practice. Women who are unhappy with the results of their original procedure or who have suffered medical complications such as capsular contracture or deflations are candidates for breast implant revision or replacement. Women who underwent breast augmentation many years ago, or who wish to have their saline implants replaced with silicone implants, may be good candidates for breast implant replacement.

To determine if you are a good candidate for cosmetic breast surgery, we invite you to contact the Santa Barbara Plastic Surgery Center and discuss your goals with Dr. Schooler.
